Benefits of Alpaca Fiber

Alpaca is lighter than sheep's wool, so you don't have to have a product that's heavy and bulky.

Alpaca is 7 times stronger than sheep's wool, for a product that can last for years!*

Alpaca is warmer than sheep's wool because its fibers have hollow cores, like polar bear or camel hair, which acts like an insulator by holding in your natural body heat.

Alpaca is hypoallergenic, because the hairs do not have the sharp barbs of sheep's wool that can prick and introduce allergens into your skin.

Alpaca fiber does not contain lanolin, so it doesn't have to be chemically treated during processing.

Alpaca naturally will not absorb moisture, making products essential for extreme activities.*

Alpaca resists pilling and abrading, for products that will endure for years.*

Pendleton Introduces Alpaca Throws

Pendleton has partnered with the American Alpaca farmers to make the first All-American Alpaca blankets in U.S. history.

The custom, exclusive Pendleton patterns were designed around the natural colors of the Alpaca fiber and are available in a Plaid, a Stripe and Houndstooth. Each pattern accentuates the best use of the beautiful variety of colors. After sorting for color and quality the fiber was spun, woven and finished at the company's Washougal, Washington mill.

Alpaca fiber was once reserved for the Incan kings of ancient Peru. Today this wonderfully light, soft alpaca throw is woven in Pendleton's Pacific Northwest Company owned and operated mill, using the fiber of American-raised alpacas. Alpaca's hollow-core fiber is even stronger and warmer than sheep wool. It retains heat, repels moisture and wears beautifully. It is hypoallergenic and no dyes are used to deliver the gorgeous natural colors. It is sustainable, natural and features warm whites to brown colorations unique to herds raised in the U.S.
